Award-winning designer Aristotelis Barakos is driven by the deepest desire to keep learning new things. Combining observation and research with a hands-on creative process, he never ceases to explore the endless possibilities for new and innovative products. Aristotelis embraces new challenges and works closely with diverse teams, craftsmen and manufacturers to create a broad spectrum of everyday products.
Aristotelis was born in Munich, where he spent his early childhood in a highly creative environment. Growing up in a men’s tailoring family gave him the ability from a very early age to empirically understand the processes of superior quality craftsmanship.
Moving to Athens at the age of 10 helped him develop the ability to assimilate different cultural elements; to this day, his personal perspective is influenced by very different cultures.
While studying Physics at the University of Athens, his aptitude in making things helped him realise that design was his true calling. Pursuing this new path, he first worked as a technician for a studio that took on special constructions for the film industry. This earned him valuable experience and skills in prototyping and creative problem solving.
His passion to envision and create, together with his curiosity to constantly learn about production techniques and experiment with materials, led him to study Product Design. Right after graduating, Aristotelis put his hands-on experimentation and understanding of how things are made into practice, supported by a network of craftsmen and experts.
By constantly embracing new challenges, he has created products for Greek and international companies and start-ups. His extensive experience in the technology sector, including six months in the heart of technology manufacturing in Shenzhen, China, makes him an invaluable partner, especially to tech start-ups. Always open to new partnerships, he never loses focus from his personal projects in his studio in Athens.
The products he has designed range from decorative items and everyday objects to state-of-the-art tech devices and systems. In 2014, he received the Future Talent award by Italian design magazine Ottagono and since then his work has earned international acclaim.
